A visit for children,
different ways of discovering the castle
1. Guided tour – only in french

A guide will be on hand throughout the tour to give you detailed explanations, grabbing children’s attention by encouraging them to take part and answering any questions they may have.

2. Independent visit
(all audiences)
Explore the lives of Princes, soldiers and servants from the earliest days of the castle’s construction through to the 17ᵉ century.
At your own pace, follow in the footsteps of the men and women who have written the history of this building, which has stood at the heart of the town of Sedan for almost six hundred years.

3. Our educational activities - only in french
We also offer educational activities throughout the school year, apart from the holidays and the month of June. They are created by our guides and adapted to different cycles (up to cycle 4). During the month, we’ll be putting on a show of chivalry.
Food in the Middle Ages - cycle 1
15th October 1591. Raymond le Marmiton, head chef at the château-fort, sets off in search of the ingredients for the wedding feast of Charlotte de la Marck and Henri de la Tour d’Auvergne, stolen by a mysterious figure.
Accompanied by an interpreter, set off as a team to find the ingredients on a trail that appeals to all five senses, and discover the eating habits and methods of preparing and preserving food in the Middle Ages. Comparisons with today’s habits will provide an initial insight into the daily lives of princes, nobles and peasants.
Discovering heraldry - cycle 2
The Grand Tournament is approaching! The princes are arriving from all over Europe. However, the herald has just found a coat of arms in the castle courtyard.
Set off as a team within the castle to discover the identity of its owner and learn more about the meaning and components of this art form in the Middle Ages. Solve the riddles and observe the details!
Fortification and artillery - cycle 3
The architecture of the fortified castle of Sedan has evolved constantly since it was built in the 15th century.
Set off to discover the fortifications and artillery, using the signs along the way to answer the questions. The whole group is divided into teams of 4-5 students with a roadmap on which they record their answers. This adventure will develop teamwork, sharing and observation skills.
"The Cinq-Mars conspiracy
- cycle 4
June 1642. Cinq-Mars’ conspiracy against Richelieu and Louis XIII was exposed. Frédéric-Maurice de La Tour d’Auvergne, Prince of Sedan, was arrested in Italy and had to surrender his principality to the King of France.
Help his wife, Eléonore de Bergh, find out who denounced the conspiracy by solving the riddles and collecting the clues during this treasure hunt through the castle. The whole group is divided into teams of 4-5 students with a roadmap on which they record their answers.
Knights show
Original creation for 2025: a new show to discover!
From 2 June to 1 July, take your pupils on a journey through history! This educational show, specially designed for school audiences, will help children understand history by bringing it to life.
